Having grown up on a two-mule farm in Mantachie, Mississippi in a poor but loving Christian home, attended Mantachie School, Itawamba Community College and the University of Mississippi where I earned three degrees, I understand and appreciate the value of public education. I am now 72 years old and retired after a wonderful professional career in public education spanning more than 50 years.
I have no grandchildren to be educated. Thus, I have no more to gain from an effective system of public education than any other Mississippian. My nine-year term on the State Board of Education ended in August. Therefore, I do not speak for the State Board.
