Ask a teacher. Ask them about class sizes. Across our state, class sizes are steadily climbing because of inadequate funding. When class sizes are manageable, this allows teachers time to give more individualized attention to students. The most important factor in student achievement is the quality of instruction. Teachers can do a better job of tracking the progress of a student, analyzing data and adjusting instruction to address students’ needs. And where does that leave low-achieving students? It makes it especially hard for them to get the one-on-one time they need to succeed.
